Welcome to the Florida Organic Gardening Blog!

My goal for this blog is to create a forum for discussion and learning about the different facets of organic foods and how they are produced, along with information for everyone from back yard organic gardeners to commercial growers.

I think if you ask 100 different people the question “what is organic food and how is it (or should it) be grown” you would get 100 different answers. The answer involves legal definitions, many different personal opinions, methods that have been used for thousands of years and a whole lot of complicated modern science and technology.

I am planning on posting on a wide range of topics. At this point they include:
  • The definitions (legal and personal) of organic foods and their production.
  • Benefits and limitations of organic growing methods.
  • How to successfully grow organic vegetables (primarily in Florida but the information would apply to other regions also).
  • Common arthropod pests (and beneficial ones too) and how to control them.
  • Common plant diseases and how to control them organically.
  • Any other topics that come up or that I think of.
  • And hopefully topics that the readers suggest.

I hope that these postings will interest and benefit a wide audience. I will try my best to explain my points in terms that are not too technical, and I must caution everyone that even though I don’t know all of the answers, I am more than happy to try to find them for you.
